Your 1st grader will be exposed to a variety of exciting math topics this year! Throughout the year I will post some math activities that can be done at home to increase mathematical understanding for your child.
Here are a few ideas to remember:
*Find
or make patterns out of everyday objects (napkin, fork, napkin,
fork...grape,
grape, strawberry, grape, grape, strawberry...pen, pencil, pen, etc.)
*When
riding in the car, ask your child to name shapes of signs that you pass.
*Say
a number, ask what comes next, ask what came before it.
*Write
down numbers with a few blank spots for your child to fill in the
missing
number (15, 16, ____, 18, 19,___)
*Count money at the grocery store or in your wallet. Ask them to name the type of coin and the value of the coin.
